Speeches 2017 Finale

Did you know students in Finland don't start getting homework until the age of seven? But here in New Zealand as soon as we go to school, we get homework? Now you can most probably tell what my speech is about but for those people who haven't guessed, it is: Kids Should Have Less Homework. A man once said, “A stressed cow doesn't give good milk” and it is the same for children “A stressed child doesn't learn well” and I think this is true and stress can come from staying up late because of homework. If this keeps happening it could lead to health issues in the body and mind. So Reachechers went to see if homework actually works and found out that any student who is doing more than three and half hours of homework a night is actually at risk for higher stress levels and poor, mental and physical health. If you are stressed as a child, there is a higher chance you could become a stressed adult when you grow up. The news website stuff asked Should primary school kids be set homework? Nine% said Yes, every school night. Twenty-five% said Yes, a couple of times a week. Twenty-nine% said Only a few projects per term. Thirty-seven% said No, not at all. So there are a lot of parents think that their child/children should not have homework. Here are six reasons why we should have less homework: One It encourages arguments between parents & children. Two It takes time away from a child’s development through play. Three It's not enjoyable Four It’s a nightmare for teachers to organize and mark. Five It has harmful health effects. Six There are very few learning benefits. With all this stuff that it does should we actually have homework? Did you know homework stands for Half Of My Energy Wasted On Random Knowledge? Now help me get less homework by saying to your teachers when they give you, heaps, of homework “I don’t want poor mental and physical health that homework can give me, so give me less.” (Warning: this may give you more homework if your teachers are mean) Sadly I didn't get in.😢😢😢 But I did do well though.
